Janie Varnell Doesn't Back Down From A Challenge - And Response (3)

  • Friday, December 6, 2024

For the past few years, I have had the privilege of knowing Janie Varnell as an acquaintance and following her work from a distance through local media and other publications. One thing I quickly noticed is that Janie Varnell does not back down from a challenge and is not afraid to be the underdog when she knows she is doing what is right and standing by her beliefs and values.

It wasn’t until a few months ago that I had the opportunity to work alongside Janie, which now allows me to consider her a close friend. If you know her, it won’t come as a surprise that our team was taking on a significant challenge. Not once did this affect how hard Janie worked or how fiercely she fought. I witnessed firsthand that she is someone who stands firm in her beliefs, no matter what others may say or think.

I applaud County Mayor Wamp for advocating to make Janie Varnell the next Hamilton County attorney. It gives me great confidence to know that we could have someone of her high caliber representing our county in various aspects of the legal field. I can assure you that with Mrs. Varnell leading the charge, Hamilton County would not be pushed around.

Thank you, County Mayor Wamp, for recommending a hardworking, passionate fighter for this vital position. I encourage every single commissioner to take the time to get to know Janie. I have no doubt her vision for the County Attorney's office is one that will make our County better.

The ball is in your court, commissioners.

Dear County Commissioners,

Have you ever thought about the job description of the county attorney and all the policies and procedures associated with the position? What is the contingency plan should Mr. Taylor need to take leave or, God forbid, suffer a life altering event? There is probably a lot to learn from Mr. Taylor that is not documented in the policies and procedures for the position.

Please be open-minded in getting to know Janie Varnell. She is an experienced and very capable attorney who is willing to do more for her community. Her experience includes criminal law, administrative proceedings, international extradition proceedings, complicated family litigation, complex federal civil litigation involving both individual parties and multiple municipalities, and she has successfully brought suit against municipalities when they have wronged their employees. By far, the field of law that has become her passion is the defense of law enforcement and the drive to ensure employees of municipalities are treated with fairness, equality and respect. Her earned trust among law enforcement is important for the county because that trust will carry over to the county attorney's office.

Again, please be open-minded for the future of Hamilton County.

I have known this lady for several years, watched her grow into a very respected lady and attorney.  Janie has always shown fairness, honesty, integrity and compassion in all areas.

I believe she would be a great asset in this appointment.
