  • Friday, April 19, 2024
The No. 5 seeded Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team saw its season conclude with a 4-0 defeat to defending champion and No. 1 seeded ETSU during the semifinal round of the Southern Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at Champions Club in Chattanooga.

The Mocs end the season at 10-15 overall after reaching the SoCon Tournament semifinal round for the third-straight season. It marks the first time appearing in the SoCon’s final four in three consecutive seasons since a stretch from 1998-2002.
ETSU advances to the title match at 12-9 overall and looks for its tenth-straight title.

The Bucs claimed the doubles point after claiming wins at the No. 3 and No. 2 positions, in respective order. It was the tandem of Peyton Gatti and Jakub Jupa who started the format with a 6-0 shutout win at No. 1 to give the Mocs early momentum despite dropping the team tally.

In singles, ETSU was in control in the majority of the matches as the No. 1 and No. 5 earned wins to give the team from Johnson City a commanding 3-0 lead. The Bucs clinched the match and earned itself back in the title battle with a victory at the No. 3 slot.

Tournament action continues at the local Champions Club facility tomorrow and Saturday as a league champion will eventually be crowned. With potential rain and schedule changes, please check on the tournament central location HERE for the most up-to-date information.
