Daniel Detlef Smith, 55, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on May 22, 2024, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 2, 1968. He was a graduate of Hixson High School class of 1986 and received a bachelor of arts in music at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Dan worked in many occupations and most recently he was a member of Local 43 Plumber and Steamfitters employed as a pipe fitter in various nuclear power plants around the region.

Dan enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid collector of knives and guns, but he was very dedicated to nature preservation as well. He spent much of his time at the family farm in Henagar, Al., growing fruit and riding tractors.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Raymond Smith and Mary Margaret Meyer Smith as well as his brother, David Newton Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Lee Lane Smith and children, Sarah Weyler (Von) and Carl Smith.

A memorial service for Daniel will be held at the First Lutheran Church located at 2800 McCallie Ave. on Saturday, June 22, at 11 a.m. with a visitation on Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. as well as receiving friends/relatives prior to the service at 10 a.m.

Daniel had a strong desire to help the homeless in our community. In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be made to the Chatt Foundation.
