The Chattanooga Public Library has a variety of special events this weekend that are free and open to all ages.
The Library and the Songbirds Foundation on Thursday are hosting the opening of The Impressions: From the Big 9 to the World Stage. This after hours event starts at 6:30 p.m., featuring live music, complimentary wine and remarks from Library Executive Director Will O’Hearn and Songbirds Executive Director Reed Caldwell.
The Library’s Local History & Genealogy Department on Saturday at 2 p.m. is hosting a Curator’s Talk with Matt Adams, curator of Path to the Presidency, an exhibit on display now through Aug. 2. Learn about the exhibit itself and experience the journey through the presidential campaign process from announcement to inauguration.
If you love not only reading but buying books too, do not miss the Chattanooga Public Library Foundation’s Summer Book Sale going on now through Saturday. The Foundation has hundreds of used books, records and more for sale in the Downtown Library’s 1st Floor Auditorium. Anyone who shows their library card will receive a 10 percent discount on purchases, and homeschoolers, educators and hospitality workers receive a 20 percent discount. Plus, on Saturday, all items are 50 percent off.
The Library also has events just for teens this weekend. Teen music aficionados are invited to a Teen Jam Session on the 2nd Floor at the Downtown Library from 3-4 p.m. During this hour, the Library’s rock instrument collection, the Noise Closet, will be open to ages 12-18. Also on Saturday, the Eastgate Library is hosting Matt Skudlarek with SK Automotive for Adulting 101: Basic Car Maintenance for Teens starting at 2 p.m. He will be covering all the basics new drivers need to know. No registration is needed for either event.
