Matilde Jimenez, 85, was born on March 14, 1939, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, and died on June 28, 2024, in Ooltewah, Tennessee.

She was a member of the Hixson Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Born to Maria and Adolfo Medina, Matilde or "Tile" as she was called by her friends and family, lived in Puerto Rico until age 18 then moved to New York to live with her aunt Amparo. She later was invited to move to live in Chicago with her sister, Maria. There she met her husband, Aurelio "Leo" who introduced her to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She fell in love with Jesus and was baptized.

The young family moved to Avon Park, Fl., in 1969 where she worked as a certified nursing assistant at Walker Memorial Hospital (Advent Health Sebring). In 1980 she became certified as a Central Supply Tech. She worked at that hospital for 30 years until she retired.

The things that made her happy were spending time with Jesus and talking with Him throughout the day. She taught her children and grandchildren of Jesus' love. She would say "don't look to the left or to the right, always look up". She would open up her home on Sabbath afternoons to the youth so they could sing and play Bible games. She enjoyed going on Mission trips with friends and working in her yard.

Her greatest joy was having her children and grandchildren home, cooking for them, and going to church together.

She moved to Ooltewah, in 2013 to be close to her three children and six grandchildren. She would say, "It's so close to the sky here. I feel I can touch heaven."

She "loved and was loved" by many. She was blessed with a beautiful smile and shared it with everyone. She will be greatly missed.

Matilde "Tile" is survived by her three children, Vilma Jimenez Cruz (Carlos), AJ Jimenez (Karen), and Linda Jimenez Astacio; six grandchildren, Briana, Valentina, Kaveri, Andrew, Jonathan, and Victoria; three brothers, Miguel Medina, Luis Medina, and Raul Medina.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Hixson Seventh-day Adventist Church from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. The service will be conducted by Pastor Walter Mancia and Pastor Mike Fulbright in the church at noon. A private family interment will follow.

Arrangements are entrusted to Covenant Funeral & Crematory, Crox family owned and operated, www.CovenantFuneral.com.
