Joshua Mays
Joshua Mays and his band Signs Following are gearing up to play their debut show in conjunction with releasing their first full length album. The album release show will be Aug. 22 at The Woodshop. Doors at 7 p.m. with music at 8 p.m. There is no cover charge, and the show is for 21 and older.
Signs Following is the long running solo project of Joshua Mays that is currently being reborn as a full-band endeavor. The fruit of that labor is a full length album built on collaboration. A few of those core collaborators include band members Ben Johnson, Monica Wright and John Hooker.
"This album is truly a product of the band’s hometown, Chattanooga," said Mays. "Recorded in basements, bedrooms, dilapidated churches, and nature reserves, it pulls from the rich DIY music scene that thrives here. The textures of these locations seamlessly blend into the music and influence the shape it takes. Signs Following is most heavily guided by folk but also sews together a patchwork of indie, ambient, and slow core influences."
The lyrics of Signs Following are more concerned with imagery and symbolism than storytelling. If there is any consistent theme, it is the idea of noticing things closely, of being mesmerized by the mystery of being alive.
