Dr. Martina Harris
Chattanooga State Community College announces Dr. Martina Harris, dean of Nursing & Allied Health, was selected as one of 27 nursing educators from across the country to join the 18th class of fellows to be inducted into the National League for Nursing’s Academy of Nursing Education.
Dr. Harris joins a total of 406 NLN fellows across the 18 classes who teach in a range of nursing education programs across higher education. They are affiliated with top-ranked teaching hospitals, academic institutions and other organizations committed to advancing the quality of health care in the U.S.
and globally, according to the NLN.
Dr. Harris was chosen in a competitive application process that considers contributions to innovative teaching and/or learning strategies; nursing education research; faculty development activities; academic leadership; promotion of public policy initiatives that advance nursing education; and collaborative educational, practice, or community partnerships.
This year’s class of Academy Fellows will be inducted during an Honors Convocation at the 2024 NLN Education Summit in San Antonio, Tx. As a fellow, Dr. Harris will actively participate in the work of the NLN community to share ideas and insights on transforming nursing education. She will also be entitled to use the credential ANEF, which stands for Academy of Nursing Education Fellow.
Dr. Harris said she looks forward to working alongside and learning from her colleagues in the 18th class of fellows.

This prestigious recognition fuels my passion for advancing nursing education and reinforces my commitment to excellence in this critical field," Dr. Harris said. "I am eager to collaborate with fellow distinguished educators and contribute to the innovative and transformative work of the Academy."
Chattanooga State President Dr. Rebecca Ashford congratulated Dr. Harris, noting her work as an instructor benefits both individual students and the community at large.

"This fellowship reflects her commitment to academic excellence and our college’s dedication to preparing students to meet the healthcare needs of our community with skill, compassion and integrity."
NLN Chair Patricia Sharpnack, DNP, RN, CNE, NEA-BC, ANEF, FAAN, dean and Strawbridge professor at the Breen School of Nursing and Health Professions at Ursuline College in Ohio, congratulated the 2024 fellows on behalf of the NLN Board.
"Academy fellowship is a singular achievement, and we applaud your extraordinary leadership, fortitude, creativity, and compassion in inspiring and motivating your students," Dr. Sharpnack said. "Thanks to your example as nursing professionals and teaching excellence, generations of nursing students have learned to do their very best in preparing to deliver outstanding care to a diverse patient population as they transition to practice in a dynamic health care environment."
