Fall Convocation To Begin Sunday At Lee

  • Thursday, September 5, 2024

Lee University’s fall Convocation will begin on Sunday and conclude on Wednesday. During this special time, the university will come together to prayerfully reflect, worship, and dedicate the upcoming semester to the Lord.

“I expect this semester's Convocation to be a watershed moment for many students, staff, and faculty, not only because of the outstanding lineup of dynamic speakers but also because there's a shared hunger among our students to experience God's presence,” said Wes Lutes, campus pastor. “I believe we will witness God answering prayers and imparting callings that many within the Lee community have been seeking.”

Each service will welcome a different speaker, beginning with Lee President Dr. Paul Conn and concluding with Lee Vice President for Student Success Dr. Lorinda Roberts.

On Monday, Lee alum Kevin McGlamery will continue the sermon series. He currently serves as the lead pastor at the North Cleveland Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee, and is a guest speaker in special services, revivals, and conferences. In addition, Mr. McGlamery is a member of Lee’s Board of Directors and the Executive Council for the Church of God. Prior to North Cleveland, he served at Life Church in Huntsville, Alabama, Lake Erie Church of God, and the Dalton Church of God. He received his Master of Arts in youth and family ministry from Lee.

Dr. Josh Rice, provost and dean of the School of Ministry for Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta, Georgia, will share the message for Tuesday. Dr. Rice also serves as teaching pastor at New Life Church of God in Canton, Georgia. He holds degrees from Lee University, Columbia Theological Seminary, and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He is the author of three books, most recently “The Patriarch: Essays from the Middle.”

Convocation will end on Wednesday evening with Dr. Roberts, who joined Lee’s School of Theology & Ministry in 2019 as an assistant professor of youth and family ministry. She has also served as adjunct faculty at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary and as a girls discipleship coordinator at several Church of God churches. Dr. Roberts has been a co-pastor, co-youth pastor, co-children’s pastor, and children’s evangelist. She holds degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, the Pentecostal Theological Seminary, and Lee University.

On Tuesday morning, Lee alum and American Idol Season 14 runner-up Clark Beckham will be featured in Conn Center, while Second Edition, a small traveling ensemble comprising members of the Lee Singers, will be in the Dixon Center. On Thursday morning, there will be a Worship & Prayer service in the Conn Center. Morning services will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Evening services will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center. Each service will begin with worship and praise led by LeeU Worship.

Lee encourages all students and guests to attend and participate in this semester’s Convocation. For those wishing to view online, services will be available via livestream at leeu.live and on Facebook. A livestream viewing will also be available in the Dixon Center on Monday and Tuesday evening.
