The Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program, in collaboration with local clubs Chatter Masters and Blue Masters, announces an innovative partnership with Hutchins Academy to deliver comprehensive communication and leadership training to youth aged 14-18.
This eight-session workshop series, hosted by Pastor Jeffrey T. Wilson of New United Missionary Baptist Church, will provide young participants hands-on experience in public speaking, critical thinking and leadership development. The program offers flexible scheduling options, with sessions available during after-school hours and weekends.
"No one church, no matter the size or how dynamic the pastor or leader is, has everything," said Pastor Wilson.
"By partnering with organizations like Toastmasters and subsequently opening that partnership up to the community at large, we can create a cadre of young people who have the moral foundation and intellectual capital to become vibrant, productive citizens and make the world a better place."
The workshop curriculum encompasses essential skills including speech preparation and delivery, impromptu speaking, voice modulation, vocabulary enhancement and the art of constructive feedback. Participants will benefit from practical exercises and mentorship from experienced Toastmasters members, officials said.
Chatter Masters President Cynthia Hill-Watson expressed enthusiasm for the initiative: "We are excited for the partnership and look forward to helping the participants develop their communication and leadership skills."
Program Coordinator Gay Haliburton will oversee the implementation of the workshop series, ensuring participants receive comprehensive support throughout their leadership journey.
Marie Mott emphasizes the partnership's broader impact: "This program is about more than just public speaking skills—it's about opening doors for young talent. Today's students need both strong communication abilities and professional connections to succeed. Our partnership creates a bridge between classroom learning and career success by connecting students with experienced professionals who can mentor them. By building these relationships early, we're helping young people access opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. This combination of practical skills and professional networking is exactly what emerging leaders need to advance in their careers."
