Covenant College Sport Management program took 14 students and two professors to Atlanta to work the College Football National Championship Game and many of the events surrounding the big game.
Officials said, "Friday we were able to tour GA Tech's football facility and hear from their director of ticket sales, then we went to the Atlanta Hawks and toured their offices and heard from a panel of full-time employees there.
"Saturday we worked a shift at the Playoff Fan Central for Media Day.
The students were responsible for helping fans find the Media Day activities and assist with general customer service. Then on Saturday night we worked the Playoff Playlist Live Concert, assisting with educating fans about the playoffs commitment to recycling and other 'green' initiatives.
"Sunday we attended Passion City Church and then spent four hours rehearsing the pre-game activities that we were responsible for doing on gameday.
"Monday, we toured the Braves Truist Park, then we worked from 1-4 p.m. at the Playoff Tailgate outside of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, assisting with fan questions as customer service volunteers. Then we went to our next shift where we held the large American flag on the field during the National Anthem before the game started."
Preston Wykoff, a sophomore sport management major, had this to say: "It was a great trip. We were able to apply a lot of what we learned in the classroom to real world situations. And best of all, we were able to make connections with a lot of industry leaders and hopefully that can help us in the future. But overall, great experience. Being on the field with the FLAG was amazing and I would love to do it again."
