The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team suffered a back-and-forth and tightly contested 4-1 decision to Georgia State in non-conference action in Peachtree Corners, Ga., at the Lifetime Fitness facility on Friday afternoon.
Chattanooga (0-3) narrowly fell in the early doubles point to Georgia State (1-2) after the No. 3 tandem of Kristof Kincses and Walker Valentine posted a 6-2 victory to offset an earlier loss in the No. 2 hole. The battle at the top pairing came down to a tiebreak, eventually falling the Panthers way with a 7-6 (4) win from Hugo Nossler and Aryan Jit Singh over UTC's Jakub Jupa and Gabriel Castillo.
Ryan Mudre accounted for the team's lone point in singles play with a three-set victory, downing GSU's Jit Singh by a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 count.
The Panthers clinched the match with its fourth team point at the No. 1 spot as Baran Soyler posted a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 comeback victory over Jupa.
Chattanooga faces South Carolina State tomorrow in a neutral match in Peachtree Corners, Ga., before another weekend of matches with their home opener scheduled for Friday (January 31) and another match on Sunday (February 2), both held in Chattanooga, Tenn.
