James Brackett
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we share the passing of beloved husband, father, granddad and faithful servant of Jesus, James Howard Brackett, Jr. "Jim", 74, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, went home to see his Savior on Saturday, January 25, 2025, with his family by his side.
He was preceded in death by his father James Howard Brackett, Sr. and his precious mama, Dorothy Elloise Brackett.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lemma Brackett, daughter, Larena Ward (Josh), Sons Michael Brackett (Catina) and Nicholas Thomas Brackett and his sweet granddaughters Emma Grace Ward, AnnaClaire Ward, Rebekah Ward and Mary Eloise Brackett.
He was born to Jim, Sr. and Eloise on Nov. 19, 1950. He grew up in Lookout Valley and graduated from Central High School. He married his sweetheart, Lemma, on Nov. 5, 1968. Jim loved being a husband, father and granddad.
He loved spending time with his family and faithfully prayed for them every day. Foremost to Jim was his commitment to Jesus and teaching others about Him. He was a Sunday School teacher and servant of Christ in many ways for more than 50 years. He not only taught everyone that Jesus loved them in spite of their brokenness but also was a living example of that truth. His favorite Bible verse and the one he wanted you to know was John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” He believed the truth in that with all his heart. He loved teaching and praying for his precious Sunday School class, that over the years became a family to Jim and Lemma. He loved them all and loved spending every Sunday morning with them for many years. It was his calling to teach and minister to them.
He was a member of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church and faithfully served the Lord there in many ways for more than 40 years. He will always be greatly missed but we know he is now at peace with our LORD!
