Virginia Gladys Scaife was born on July 6, 1934, in Senoia, Georgia, to Claude Turner, Sr. and Jennie Lee Dixon Turner.

She is a 1954 graduate of Howard High School. Virginia had a great love for learning and was an avid reader. It was important to her that her children attend college; with her support and encouragement, they did.

She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age in Senoia. After moving to Chattanooga, TN as a teenager, she joined New Monumental Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of the church (for over 70 years) until her health prevented her from attending in person. She was a member of the Evergreen Club and a dedicated member of the Usher Board.

Virginia was a former employee of U.S. Pipe, the Cavalier Corporation, and retired from Parkridge Hospital. She was a Hamilton County election worker for many years at Carver Center. She considered it an honor to assist people exercising their right to vote.

She was known for her love for her children and grandchildren’s friends and their love and respect for her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Claude, Jr.; aunt, Irene Crawford; and beloved nephew, Geoffrey Turner.

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, Virginia passed away surrounded by her loving family. She leaves her beloved memories to be cherished by her devoted children, Kenneth (Celeste), Linda (Greg) and Eric; her “second little girl”, Erica; bonus daughter, Barbara; cherished grandchildren, Karla, Erin and Eric, Jr; great grandson, Ezra; sister/best friend, Ruby Traylor; beloved nephew, Kevin; niece, Kittie; dear friends, Hubert Jackson and Margaret Evans, her grand dog, Arly; caring neighbors, including Veronica and Lee Jones and Warren Mines; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will begin at 9 a.m. until the hour of the service at 11:30 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 3, at Monumental Baptist Church, 901 Woodmore Lane.

Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, 423 622-9995.
