Brian Joyce, WGOW Talk Radio Part Ways After 12-Year Stint

  • Thursday, January 30, 2025

Longtime WGOW Talk Radio host Brian Joyce confirmed Thursday that he and the station have "parted ways" after his stint of over 12 years.

Mr. Joyce, 48, said he will be seeking other ventures.

He joined the station in 2012, and in 2018 WGOW Talk Radio 102.3 FM announced him as the new lead morning host. That was after the departure of longtime morning lead announcer Jeff Styles from the station.

WGOW said at the time that Mr. Joyce would be a permanent addition to the Morning Press team that also included Jim Reynolds and Kevin West. It marked the first permanent addition to the morning show lineup in more than 20 years. The Morning Press ran from 6-10 a.m.

Prior to that he had hosted the Brian Joyce Show in the afternoons on WGOW.

In October, 2023, Talk Radio 102.3 FM (WGOW) debuted its new morning show “Jed and JR Mornings” with former TV personality Jed Mescon and longtime WGOW stalwart Jim “JR” Reynolds.

That show continues to air weekdays from 6-9 a.m. Mr. Joyce then shifted to the 10 a.m.-noon slot with "Brian Joyce Unfiltered."

The station said of him at the time, "Tune in to Chattanooga’s most outspoken talk host and business owner, Brian Joyce, as he addresses the hottest local and national issues on “Unfiltered” with Brian Joyce. With a career spanning two decades, Brian has built a reputation as the only talk host and small business owner in Chattanooga willing to take on the powers-that-be, take down the small-minded, and address the most important issues that matter to his listeners. Twice named to Talkers Magazine “Heavy Hundred” List of the Top 100 talk hosts in America, there’s no issue Brian won’t touch, nobody he fears, and no special interest he bows to. Come with a prepared mind! “Unfiltered” with Brian Joyce."

Mr. Joyce was also in the news for operating the Blue Light nightclub on Station Street. It opened toward the end of August 2021 and just several months later had its beer license suspended for alleged violations to the city beer code.

Over the next two years, the beer license of the Blue Light was suspended multiple times and then revoked for alleged violations and disorders.

Mr. Joyce was involved in frequent litigation concerning the bar, and he maintained that he was unfairly targeted by city officials in the crackdown on the Blue Light. The nightclub ultimately closed in August 2023.
