K. Alan Shikoh
Lee University will host a faculty recital with K. Alan Shikoh, guitar, on Thursday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Squires Recital Hall, located in Lee’s Humanities Center.
Named one of three finalists for Acoustic Guitarist of the Year in 2019 by Guitarist Magazine, Mr. Shikoh will perform a recital program which “explores the vibrant colors, vivacious rhythm, and evocative harmony of Brazilian music,” celebrating the rich legacy of some of the country’s most historically significant guitarist composers and their influence on the roots of Brazilian Jazz and the Bossa Nova.
Beginning his musical journey at the age of 12, Mr. Shikoh was trained in classical guitar at The McCallie School. He received his Master of Arts from Middle Tennessee State University and his Bachelor of Music in guitar performance from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
He has performed on the NPR radio show “From the Top,” was chosen as a finalist for Acoustic Guitarist of the Year by MusicRadar and Guitarist Magazine, and has won multiple awards for his compositions, including first place in the Roland Dyens International Arranging Competition and second place in the Portugal International Guitar Composition Competition.
Mr. Shikoh has served as a session player for a wide range of musical projects and has served as adjunct faculty at Lee University, Southern Adventist University and Covenant College.
