Roy Craig Barnes, 76, passed on March 12, 2025.

Craig was a man with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Once he welcomed you into his life and heart it didn’t matter if you were blood ties, you were family. He had an adventurous spirit and loved to take long road trips to see as much of this beautiful country as he could. He loved the desert and the ocean but above all the mountains, especially the mountains of Georgia where he always felt at home and at peace.

But when he wasn’t seeking out new vistas to explore he was just as happy spending time at home with his family. He loved to play cards with his daughter and grandkids, watch a football game with his nephew Willie, be surrounded by the hugs and laughter of his great grandchildren, and above all spend quiet evenings with his beloved wife of over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Barnes, children Jamie Mitchell and Brandon Hayes, grandchildren Jarvis Mitchell, Graham Mitchell, Macey Hayes, Gabe Hayes and Faith Pace, great grandchildren Oslo, Kover, Gus and Zach. But the list of people that loved and will miss him is so much greater than these.

“Well is hope you understand I just had to go back to the island….”
