Covenant Baseball Loses 10-6 To Oglethorpe

The Covenant baseball team returned to the diamond for some midweek action against SAA foe, Oglethorpe. A three-run home run and a grand slam in consecutive innings for the Stormy Petrels proved to be too much to come back from as they left town with a 10-6 win. 

Final: Covenant 6, Oglethorpe 10 The Stormy Petrels moved ahead in the first inning with an RBI single that scored a runner from second base. Covenant tied the game at one in the second inning as Josh McCaskill drove in Roby McClarnon with an RBI groundout to second base. 

A two-out, three-run home run by Isaiah Pou for Oglethorpe in the third inning, put it ahead 4-1.
Covenant came right back with two runs in the third inning as McClarnon delivered a 2-RBI single up the middle.

In the fourth inning, the Stormy Petrels, hit another home run with two outs, this one a grand slam to right field by Trey Kinnan.

A RBI double by Daniel Bell followed by an RBI single from Wiliam Blosser put the score at 8-5 in the bottom of the fourth. 

Both teams scored one run in the fifth inning with Covenant's run coming from an RBI single by Ben Johnson. 

Covenant looked to draw closer in the sixth inning, however Zeke Gilbert was thrown out at the plate from right field after McClarnon hit what he hoped would be a sacrifice fly. 

The Stormy Petrels scored their final run in the seventh inning using an RBI double to left field.
The Scots were retired in order in the final three innings.

Covenant moves to 10-12 all-time against Oglethorpe. RHP Christian Vander Veen (5 IP, 8  H, 9 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) took the loss for Covenant on the mound. RHP Jake Schock (2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 K) and RHP Brady Daniell (2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 K) pitched in relief for the Scots. 

Bell (3-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI) led the Covenant offense with three doubles on the day. Gilbert (2-for-5, 2 R) and McCaskill (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) also had multi-hit days for the Scots.

Covenant outhit Oglethorpe 12-11.

The Stormy Petrels had three errors while the Scots had none.

Covenant takes a trip to LaGrange to start a three-game conference series on Friday.
