CHARLESTON, Tenn. -- The Walker Valley Lady Mustangs recovered from a 2-0 volleyball sweep against Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts Monday in a big way with a 3-0 sweep of The Howard School Lady Hustlin' Tigers inside “The Stable” Tuesday.

The Lady Mustangs dropped Monday's match by scores of 25-18 and 25-17.

Tuesday, Walker Valley (1-4) bounced back to pick up its first win of the season rolling to set wins of 25-10, 25-8 and 25-7 against Howard (0-1).

“One of the biggest things we talked about going into this game was controlling our side and making sure we are focused on what we are doing. I feel like they came out and executed that,” said Lady Mustangs head coach Abby Stroh.

After falling behind 3-1 early thanks to aces off the palm of Howard's Eunique Hamilton, WV's Madeline McBrayer got the Fillies off to a solid start with four consecutive aces to sling the Lady Mustangs out front 7-4.

Journey Rollo and Caliegh Collins chipped in with aces and McBrayer topped off the 8-1 run to make it 16-8. Julia Scarbrough added a pair of aces in to help push the lead to 20-9. Madison McClung added a final pair of aces to make it a 25-10 final.

Scarbrough led off the second set with three aces as the Lady Mustangs galloped to a 6-0 lead before building the advantage to 13-3.

Avery Collins chipped in with a trio of aces helping to open the gap t0 21-6.

After a side out, Howard's Maddison Gaines served up an ace for the Lady tigers to make it a 21-8 score.

A final side out sent Walker Valley's Rollo to the service line. Three aces later, the Lady Mustangs claimed a 25-8 set win.

“We have some logistics to work out, but I think the girls have a really positive attitude and work together really well. I'm excited for the rest of the season, said Howard head coach Tiffany Godley.”

The Lady Mustangs made quick wok of the final set beginning with a McBrayer kill who then served up back-to-back-to-back aces. Three more aces courtesy of Rollo helped push the score to 16-5.

Collins finished off the sweep with three final aces as the Lady Mustangs reeled off nine straight points to end the match.

Walker Valley opens its district schedule Thursday at home against Cleveland.

“Our sets got better and better as we went on. Our errors lowered. That's something we've really been talking about, trying to get out of this little rut we are in,” said Stroh. “We came out playing and executed well. I'm proud of them. We have no time to rest. We have practice tomorrow and Cleveland Thursday.”
