Lee, Other Governors Say UAW Unionization Could Put Jobs In Jeopardy

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee joined five other governors in issuing a joint statement opposing United Auto Workers (UAW)’s unionization campaign. Workers at the Chattanooga Volkswagen plant will vote Wednesday-Friday on joining the UAW. The statement says: “We the Governors of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas are highly concerned about the unionization campaign driven by misinformation and scare tactics that the UAW has brought into our states. ... more

Former UTC Athletic Director Steve Sloan Dies At Age 79

Steve Sloan, who served as the athletic director at UTC for four years, leaving in 2006, has died at the age of 79. Mr. Sloan was from Cleveland and graduated from Bradley Central High School. During his high school career at Bradley Central High School he was an honor student and in both 1960 and 1961 he was selected to the All State football and basketball teams as well as being named the Associated Press’s Number one player in the state for both sports.
