Military Allows HAAP Hunts Following 9-11 Attack

  • Wednesday, June 12, 2002

Holston Army Ammunition Plant (HAAP) is currently planning to resume its deer hunting program during the upcoming 2002 hunting season, barring any unforeseen events.

The installation cancelled all of its deer hunts last year because of increased security requirements following the tragic events of September 11. Although HAAP is once again planning to host deer hunts, the installation will not be accepting applications or conducting a drawing for the 2002 season. This is due to the fact that all slots for this year’s regular season hunts will be filled by those individuals who were drawn for last year’s hunts, which were cancelled.

Those individuals who were drawn last year but were unable to hunt, should receive information in August regarding their rescheduled 2002 hunt.

For those individuals interested in applying for one of the Hawkins County special quota antlerless-only hunts that are held at HAAP, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) will be accepting applications for those hunts this year.

Application information for these hunts will be available in mid-July when TWRA announces and accepts applications for the special season antlerless-deer and fall turkey hunts. Anyone requiring further information should contact the HAAP Natural Resources Office at 423-578-6276.
