Street Name At CCS Will Be Charger Drive

  • Tuesday, February 4, 2003

A short section of street in front of Chattanooga Christian School will be called Charger Drive.

The original proposal, but some City Council members said they opposed naming streets after schools or businesses. The school nickname is Chargers so that compromise was reached.

Councilman Jack Benson said he is still against it, saying, "We'll start getting Rebel Drive or Panther Street."

He wondered if that end of Broad Street could be Broad End, Broad Side, or Broadway.

That short stretch is now part of Broad Street, but it was decided to make the road that goes by the Mount Vernon Restaurant be the end of Broad Street.

Other council members favored the change. Councilman John Lively said there is a Lookout Valley High Street leading to that school.

There is also a Ty-Hi Drive near Tyner High, it was pointed out.

Officials said Chattanooga Christian School "is the only thing on this street."
