The case in which a Soddy-Daisy dentist was charged with impersonation of a licensed professional has been bound over to the Grand Jury.
General Sessions Court Judge Bob Moon said Dr. William David Hinds could not practice dentistry until the case is resolved.
The judge said the charge is an E felony, and it could not be settled in General Sessions Court unless the state was willing to lower the charge.
After talking with the detective in the case, prosecutor John Lee said that could not be done.
Attorney Lloyd Levitt then said Dr. Hinds would agree to the case being bound over without a preliminary hearing.
County Det. Jeff Parton earlier said he received complaints from a local pharmacist that Hinds was practicing dentistry without a valid license.
He said he contacted the state and found his license was revoked in 1991 for improper prescribing and had not been reinstated.
The detective said he went to the office at 8961 Dayton Pike and found Hinds doing a procedure on a patient.
He said he directed him to cease the procedure and placed him under arrest.
The detective said when he went to the office, Jack Morton, a dentist who had practiced from the same office, was in the waiting area.
