The UTC Department of Music will present the Chattanooga Clarinet Choir in concert on Monday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m., in Roland Hayes Concert Hall on the corner of Vine and Palmetto.
Founded in 1999 by Jay Craven, the Chattanooga Clarinet Choir is a community ensemble comprised of professional, student and amateur clarinetists from the Chattanooga area, including members of the UTC faculty.
Directing the ensemble will be UTC professor Dr. Stuart Benkert, who joined the group as conductor in 2003.
The concert will feature works from different stylistic periods, with masterworks from the Renaissance, Classical and Romantic periods as well as the UTC premier of "A Wood Carved River," a recent composition by UTC professor Dr. Jonathan McNair.
Clarinetist Nikolasa Tejero will perform as soloist in a transcription of Tchaikovsky's "Canzonetta."
The program will also feature guitarist and UTC alumnus Adam Hale, who will join the group for a unique rendition of Heitor Villa-Lobos' "Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5."
Admission to this event is free and open to the public.
