WTCI announced Tuesday the winners of the Fifth Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest, sponsored in-part by Joseph Chung, DDS. The Awards Ceremony was held at the Tennessee Aquarium on Saturday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
The winners in each grade were: Kindergarten:
First Place Jenna Thorstenson, 6, Signal Mountain for "Going Into First Grade"
Second Place Sam Dishman, 5, Whitwell for "The Whopper and the Line: A True Story"
Third Place Zachary Price, 6, Chattanooga for "The Fight"
First Grade:
First Place Casey Hansen, 7, Flinstone, for "My Adventures on Mars"
Second Place Anna Catherine Walshe, 6, Chattanooga "The Lonely Eel"
Third Place Dylan Webb, 6, "The Aliens in War"
Second Grade:
First Place Garrett Cox, 8, Whitwell for "Two Cool Cows"
Second Place Chelsie Dodds, 8, Ringgold, for "Max Goes to School"
Third Place Brittany Danielle Patmon, 8, Chattanooga for "The Paper Elephant"
Third Grade:
First Place - Elizabeth A. Hayes, 9, Cleveland for "One Day in the Life of My Tennis Shoes"
Second Place Noelle Thorstenson, 9, Signal Mountain for "The Battered Old Trunk"
Third Place Olivia Valadie, 8, Chattanooga for "A Beautiful Friendship"
The place of each of the winners was announced at the Awards Ceremony. Each winner received a Reading Rainbow video, a trophy, a book, a T-shirt and entrance into the Tennessee Aquarium with their families after the ceremony.
WTCI TV45 is a community-owned non-profit public television station. This contest was part of its on-going outreach efforts. Channel 45's mission is to provide quality programming that informs, educates and entertains.
