Minnie Katherine Austin, born June 1, 1927and a resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on June 12, 2025, at the age of 98.

Minnie attended elementary, middle, and high school locally and was a graduate of Fisk University. Minnie then went on to work for the Chattanooga Housing Authority for many years until her retirement.

Minnie was a devoted member of First Baptist Church East Eighth Street in Chattanooga where she served for many years as Sunday School Superintendent and regularly welcomed the congregation during the worship services. One of her favorite things to do was to play piano for personal pleasure and for small church gatherings.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Pansy Sherrell. Survivors include Ken Buchanan, Jr., Trenace Buchanan, long time friends, Ella Betts, Randolph Martin, Jr., Quinta Martin, Lionel Martin, Deborah Mackey, and several cherished friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 19, from 12-1 p.m. at Hardwick & Sons funeral home, 2521 Duncan Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37404.

Graveside services will be held immediately after visitation at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4016 Tennessee Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37410 at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Sunday School Department of First Baptist Church, 506 East Eighth Street, Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.
