Travis Jones
The body of a 17-year-old Ringgold High School sophomore was recovered from a quarry at the Windstone subdivision on Ooltewah-Ringgold Road shortly before noon on Friday.
Authorities said Travis Jones, of Talley Circle in Ringgold, went to the quarry with a number of other friends to dive and swim on Thursday.
They said another youth jumped in the water and accidentally landed on him. He did not resurface.
Rescue personnel did not recover the body on Thursday, but found it on Friday morning.
Officials said the youths did not have permission to be at the "blue hole" at the former quarry.
Catoosa County Sheriff Phil Summers said he did not believe that alcohol was involved.
The quarry is off Ooltewah-Ringgold Road near New Heights Baptist Church.
Windstone is partially in Hamilton County, Tenn., and partially in Catoosa County, Ga.
The body was taken to the state crime lab at Summerville for an autopsy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Clif Roth and Rev. Ron Kuhns officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
