Barbara Jean Smith Roberts, 80, of East Ridge, died on Tuesday, July 26, 2005.
A native of Detroit, MI, she lived in Milwaukee, WI for 70 years prior to moving to East Ridge in 1997. She was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church, UCC.
Barbara served in the Federal Civil Service for the War Department in 1944 and the Wisconsin Civil Service at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.
She was a member of the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin, College Endowment Association, Governor of Wisconsin Society of Mayflower Descendants, Honorary State Regent of Wisconsin Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, Honorary President of Wisconsin Society of Daughters of Founders and Patriots, Organizing President of Wisconsin Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, Past Officer of Wisconsin Huguenot Society, U.S. Daughters of 1812, Dames of the Court of Honor, Colonial Dames of America, First Families of Massachusetts, Colonial Order of the Crown, Magna Carta Dames and the Women Descendants of Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts.
She worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Robert Zuege, orthopedic surgeon, in Milwaukee for many years before retiring.
Her parents, Robert Weston and Dorothy Bradford Smith preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Orville William Roberts; daughters, Barbara J. Massa, East Ridge, Deborah A. Jolin (Mrs. Dennis), Chattanooga, Susan B. Coulliette (Mrs. Don), East Ridge; brother, Robert Bradford Smith, Reno, NV; sister, Priscilla (Smith) Winter, Oconomowoc, WI; grandchildren, David A. Fiala, Palm Bay, FL, Christopher M. LaFranka, Chattanooga, Michael O. Coulliette, Chattanooga, Jason M. Jolin, North Smithfield, RI, Jennifer A. Coulliette, East Ridge; great-grandchildren, Bailee M. LaFranka, Chattanooga, Trevor E. Jolin, North Smithfield, RI,; four nieces and five nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Pilgrim Congregational Church, UCC located at 400 Glenwood Drive with Dr. John Mingus officiating.
Mrs. Roberts will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Everyone is invited to a celebration of Barbara’s life being held at the family home at 1140 Chippewah Drive in East Ridge immediately following the committal at National Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory.
