WTCI announced the winners of the Eighth Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest.

The contest is designed to help children open their minds and explore their world in an exciting and creative way by writing their own original story and drawing imaginative illustrations, officials said.

In years past, the contest was open to grades kindergarten through third grade. In 2006, the contest was
expanded to include fourth and fifth graders. Over 500 stories were received from children in Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.

"The Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest is just one example of WTCI's commitment to providing worthwhile educational opportunities for children in our viewing area," said Paul Grove, WTCI president and CEO. "Not only does it encourage a life-long love for reading, it also encourages children to use their imagination and share their creativity with others."
