Experience Diwali, Indian Festival Of Lights On Nov. 17

The India Association of Chattanooga invites the in the Chattanooga community to its annual celebration of the Indian Diwali festival on Saturday, from 5-7:30 p.m.

The program showcases several Indian dances (classical, folk) and music. The free cultural program will be held at Chattanooga State, in the C.C. Bond Humanities Auditorium, and is open to the entire Chattanooga community.

The program will be followed by dinner at Sitar Indian Restaurant, 6231 Perimeter Drive, from 8-10 p.m. Price for the dinner is adults-$12, children seven years and younger-$6. Pay directly to the restaurant.

"Diwali is a festival of lights. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil," said Lotika Chandra, secretary of the India Association of Chattanooga. "Many lamps are lit to signify the removal of darkness or ignorance. It is also celebrated by exchanging gifts and bursting fireworks."

For the first time the India Association is able to present the Diwali program free of charge, courtesy of several sponsors: Apna Bazaar, Acura Rugs & Soni Family Dalton, India Bazaar, and Sitar Restaurant.
