Rep. Eric Watson announced his annual "Singing in the Park" will be on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. in downtown Cleveland at Johnston Park. This year's lineup includes the award-winning Kingsmen quartet, Tennessee Harmony, Mallory Ledford, and Dave Raby.
If there's one group whose name inspires thoughts of pure, passionate, solid and true music, it's The Kingsmen. They've encouraged and uplifted listeners with their unique style since the conception of the group in 1956. With countless records and compilations sold, Grammy nominations, four Dove Awards and an induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2000, this certainly solidifies The Kingsmen as gospel music's most predominate quartet.
"The Kingsmen are excited to get back to Cleveland and see our old friends" said Ray Dean Reese, Kingsmen manager and bass singer. "We'll be singing a lot of old favorites and as well as our new hits."
There are not too many groups today who can boast the kind of far-reaching legacy that comes with a 52-year career as one of gospel music's most influential artists. The Kingsmen emerged in the 1950's with their own distinct style, unleashing music that would solidify them as pioneers in the southern gospel music field. They continue to carry the legacy on today.
Over the last several years, Miss Mallory Ledford has developed into a phenomenal instrument of God. At ten years old, Mallory attributes her style and direction to Sandi Patty, Karen Peck Gooch, and Charlotte Church. She currently has a recording with several songs that features her dynamic vocal range, control, and confidence. She continues to stun her audiences, appeal to crowds of all ages, and has a astonishing talent
Tennessee Harmony is no stranger to Cleveland, the group has been honored with nine top 80 songs. Currently, they have two singles on the charts "Jesus What A Savior" is at # 67 for the month of September the current single "Love One Another" is # 17 across the nation on the top 100 charts for October. They were recently named Gospel Music Tour's "Quartet of the Year" for 2008. The heart of Tennessee Harmony is to sing with inspiration, share with compassion, and be examples of true witnesses for Christ.
J. Bazill Mulls, DJ of the Year "Dave Raby," will also perform on the stage singing songs like "We Want America Back," "I Can Only Imagine," and "Praise Him."
Admission is free and includes free food, drinks and prizes.
Officials said, "Bring your lawn chair and join us for an afternoon of fun and entertainment. Also check out the new exciting exhibits from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation."
