Dr. Noel C. Hunt III, M.D., died peacefully Thursday, May 15, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family.

A longtime resident of Chattanooga, Dr. Hunt was a graduate of McCallie School and received his BA degree and medical degree from Vanderbilt University, Nashville. He served medical residencies at Vanderbilt and Duke University Medical Center where he completed his cardiology fellowship. He was a founding member of the Chattanooga Heart Institute.

Dr. Hunt was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was the son of the late Dr. Noel C. Hunt Jr. and Constance Wilson Hunt. He was preceded in death by his sister, Wilson Hunt Triplett.

He is survived by his wife, Trisha Jolley Hunt; three children, Dr. Noel McReynolds Hunt and wife, Stephanie, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Dr. Peter McLain Hunt and wife, Kathleen, of Chattanooga, and Claire Hunt McVay and husband, Wyatt, of Chattanooga; one brother, William Hunt, of Chattanooga; stepdaughters, Wendi Thompson and Aimee Belt, both of Chattanooga; ten grandchildren; and one niece.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Hon. and Rev. Samuel H. Payne officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Thomas, Paul Kelly, Howell Clements, Smith Murray, Tom Kale, Joe Wilson and Bob Berglund.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:30-8 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.
