A friend of Wayne’s pointed us in the direction of Fox & Hen Café – Deli at 4767 Highway 58. They are located at the opposite end of the center with Baskin-Robbins.

This is an order at the counter and pay as you order style. You can purchase meat and cheese by the pound if you are so inclined.

Each day there are daily specials and a couple of soups, some made from scratch there at the café, while some are purchased. Pizza crust comes prepared, but uncooked, in regular and thin.

The menu includes Specialty sandwiches ($6.50 to $7), Design Your Own sandwiches ($4.50 to $6.50), Spuds ($4.50 to $5.75), and Salads ($5.25 to $6.25). Fox & Hen also offers Pastas with garlic toast ($5.50 to $7.50) and Pizza.

I ordered a cup of the loaded potato soup when I learned it was made from scratch. I also ordered one of the daily specials, three pieces of cheese ravioli ($4.75). The ravioli also was served in a larger size. The soup was absolutely delicious. In fact, had I known it was going to be so good, I would have ordered the larger bowl and skipped the ravioli. The ravioli was quite tasty, with marinara sauce, but I liked the soup better.

Wayne decided to order the Fat Man pizza (all meats) and added onions and mushrooms ($.75 each). Pizzas are in two sizes – 7” and 12”. They certainly do not skimp on toppings. After the toppings are added, the pizza is heavily coated with cheese sealing the ingredients in, keepingt them from falling off. He said had he known the toppings were going to be so generous, he would have ordered the smaller size as he ended up bringing some of it home. He decided this pizza rivals his favorite! That’s saying a lot.

While we were there, they were quite busy serving eat-in customers, carry-out orders, and people coming in just to purchase meat and cheese.

Wayne said this is definitely a place he wants to go back to next time he gets a craving for pizza.

Fox & Hen also does catering, offering a special catering menu. We did not sample any of the desserts on our visit but they do have cookies, brownies and cheesecake.

Hours for Fox & Hen are Monday through Wednesday from 6:30 a.m. (featuring breakfast items) until 7 p.m.; Thursday and Friday until 8 p.m.; and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. They are closed on Sunday.

If you happen to be in the Highway 58 area, check them out.
