An Advent message series, "The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem," will begin Sunday, at Burks United Methodist Church, 6433 Hixson Pike. Based on the book by Adam Hamilton, this five-week worship series explores the Christmas story so familiar to us all, but its true meaning and profound impact on our lives can often be lost in the shopping and hectic, busy rush of the season. Through Christmas Eve, we will journey with Mary and Joseph and the rest to discover the impact of Jesus' birth for us all. The schedule:
Sunday, Dec. 2, Mary of Nazareth --Willingness; Sunday, Dec. 9, Joseph of Betlehem -- Mercy; Dec. 16, Mary Visits Elizabeth -- Encouragement; Dec. 23, From Nazareth to Bethlehem -- Perseverance; Christmas Eve (3, 5 and 11 p.m.): Thed Manger-- Presence.
Also beginning the week of Dec. 2, some Sunday School classes will offer the five-week study. Adam Hamilton is the senior pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurection in Leawood, Kan, and the author of 12 books.
The Crossfire Worship Band Christmas Concert will be Sunday at 6 p.m. with Christmas and Advent music.
The 24th annual drive through live Nativity will be Monday, Dec. 10, beginning at 6:30 p.m. featuring seven scenes with narration, concluding at 8:30 p.m. In case of bad weather, a rain date of Tuesday, Dec. 11, will be offered.
