Demetrius Demond Bibbs
Police said a validated gang member who was due in court today to answer a first-degree murder charge has been involved in another gang shooting.
Witnesses said Demetrius Demond Bibbs, identified as a member of the Black P Stone Bloods, on Tuesday fired at Guy Wilkerson, who was in the side parking lot of the Boys and Girls Club on 4th Avenue. The victim, who fired back, was hit in the buttocks. He was driven to Parkridge Hospital in a personal vehicle.
Bibbs, 19, has been charged in the new case with attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
Witnesses said Bibbs was the front-seat passenger of a black Nissan Altima. The Nissan was later located at 4526 Kings Lake Court - the address where it was registered. Bibbs was found inside a residence at 1601 Kirby Ave.
Bibbs, whose murder case is in the courtroom of Criminal Court Judge Rebecca Stern, was allowed an OR bond by Judge Stern last Dec. 8.
Ronald Blackmon Jr., 25, was the victim in the murder case. Bibbs and Edward Ryals Jr., were charged in connection with the shooting on Sheridan Avenue near Wilson. The victim was shot in the head.
Bibbs was charged in October 2010 with especially aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit especially aggravated robbery. The former charge was dismissed and he pleaded guilty to the conspiracy count. He got a three-year suspended sentence in Judge Stern's court.
