Doris Smith

Doris Dean Smith died on Friday, December 26, 2014.

Doris was born on Nov. 23, 1931, in North Georgia.  She attended Second Presbyterian Church where she faithfully served for over 65 years.  At church she was a member of the Knit Wits, who crochet and knit blankets for hospice patients.  She named this group of dear friends as honorary pallbearers.  Doris loved children and previously taught Sunday school to toddlers.  For many years, Doris faithfully and reverently prepared communion for her church.  She had been previously named Presbyterian Woman of the Year.

Doris loved her family, friends, church, and children.  She loved cooking for others and nurturing her flowers.  Many received her gifts of banana bread, cakes, and pies.  Her continual words of encouragement and constant concern will be missed by everyone.  The world is a lesser place without her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Frederick Smith, Sr.; grandmother, Mary “Momma” Wilson, who lovingly raised Doris; daughter, Teresa Charlesworth-Jones; grandson, David Spencer Charlesworth; parents, George and Clara Wooten; and three infant granddaughters.

Survivors include sons, Raymond “Randy” Frederick (Julie) Smith, Jr. and Timothy Kean (Beverly) Smith; daughter Susan Dean Randall; grandchildren Chrissie (Doug) Dillard, Michael (Melissa) Randall, Joshua Smith, Jameson Smith, Tyler and Sierra Lansford; great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Second Presbyterian Church, 700 Pine Street, on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 11:45 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:45 p.m., and will conclude with burial at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
