Retired Chattanooga Firefighter Was Dirt Track Racer

James Ray Pippin, 73, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, died on Thursday, September 11, 2014.

He was a retired Chattanooga fireman after 28 years of service, he was the former owner of Ray’s Towing Service in Red Bank for 20 years and he was a dirt track racer for 25 years driving the #76 car. Ray was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church.

His father, James William Pippin, his mother, Treva Pippin Hamill, stepfather, Alfred Hamill and a sister, Jo Rooks, preceded him in death.

Ray is survived by his wife, Pam McGill Pippin; son, Danny (Anna) Pippin of Hixson; brother, William (Shirley) Pippin of Red Bank, sister, Shirley Massengale of Red Bank; two grandchildren, Layla and Rayce Pippin and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Evans and Reverend Bryan Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park. Visitation is from 4-9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, at the funeral home.
