Following more than a year of planning by local and statewide personnel, Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, will hold its Biennial Regional Assembly on Friday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 4.
The primary purpose of the Regional Assembly is to strengthen the Region by nurturing, engaging, building “community” and celebrating togetherness by Disciples, for the benefit of Disciples. The Assembly will be held at First Christian Church, Chattanooga, hosted by several Disciples of Christ churches in Tennessee.
Worship at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 3 is open to the public. Rev. Lawrence Turner, senior pastor from Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis, will present the sermon. Rev. Turner has a Master of Divinity degree from Yale University Divinity School, and he was awarded the prestigious H.H. Tweedy Prize for exceptional promise for pastoral leadership.
Disciples of all ages will be involved in activities, workshops, and outreach projects on Saturday, Oct. 4. The public is invited to closing worship beginning at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Rebecca Hale, vice president for mission and ministry, National Benevolent Association, will present the message interspersed with vocal and instrumental performances by the All-Assembly Choir and Jericho Brass Band. Rev. Hale is committed to helping Disciples explore landscapes for ministry opportunities and faithful missions based on assessments of those landscapes.
Both evening services will be captioned for attendees with hearing loss. Disciples of Christ identifies itself as a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of one body of Christ, all are welcome to the Lord’s Table, as God has welcomed us.
First Christian Church is located at 650 McCallie Avenue. Call the church office at 267-4506 for more information. Regular services are held every Sunday at 10:45 a.m.
