Aaron English and Jackson Ledford scored two touchdowns each as Copper Basin (2-1, 1-0) rallied to defeat host Silverdale Baptist, 34-21, Friday night in a Class A District 5 high school football game.

The Cougars trailed 14-0 at the 9:20 mark of the second quarter and then outscored the host Seahawks, 34-7, to improve to 2-1 overall and win their first district game since topping Grace Baptist 28-14 in Sept. 2012. The last time Copper Basin won a road district game was 35-0 at Silverdale, Sept.

17, 2010.

In a wild opening to the third quarter English took the kickoff 70 yards for the score, but the Cougars occurred two, 15 yard penalties on the run. Copper Basin had to attempt the extra point from the Silverdale 33 yard line and took a 15-14 lead on a Ledford to Ryan Brooks pass.

English wasn’t finished as he stripped Silverdale quarterback Nathan Keylon the ball on the next possession and four plays later found the end zone for a 21-14 lead.

But Silverdale (2-1,0-1) re-grouped and tied the game 21-21 as a Tanner Webb halfback pass to Alex Gonzalaz resulted in a 46 yard scoring play and the game was tied.

Copper Basin came right back and Ledford capped a 55-yard drive with a 1-yard run to take the lead for good (28-21) with 2:48 remaining in the third quarter

On its next possession, Silverdale then drove to the Cougar 5-yard line but failed to score on a fourth and goal from the 5.

Led by its offensive line opening holes for the running backs, Copper Basin marched 95 yards in 9:46 to score with 2:10 in the fourth.

"The guys up front did such a great job in blocking for us (backs)," said senior running back Quantavious Brown who rushed for 105 yards on 11 carries on the game's final touchdown.

“I am so proud of our offensive line,” said Copper Basin coach Patrick Daley. “Our players have risen to every challenge we have put in front of them.”

Silverdale coach Al Rogers stated,"They are a talented team and we had a difficult time stopping their run game.'
