Donald Edward Schiller died on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at 87 years of age in East Ridge, Tennessee.
Don was born June 13, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wi. Upon graduating from high school, Don entered the United States Navy serving in World War II. After the war he completed his education and began a challenging career as a pioneer in the development and management of information systems for various manufacturing and trucking companies. Don always enjoyed running 10ks, skiing with his family, and playing tennis with his friends. He was a member of East Ridge Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and teacher. A priority in his life was studying and teaching God’s word.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Erna (Prahl) Schiller and his sister, Laverne Bethe.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene (Poertner); sons, Peter (Deanne) Schiller, Honolulu, Hi., and David Schiller, Hollywood, Ca.; daughters, Linda (Russell) Friberg, Chattanooga, and Becky (Del) Chinchen, Nairobi, Kenya; sister, Caroline Schiller, West Bend, Wi.; granddaughters, Sophie Knight, Charisa Hasse, Joanna Vaughn, Janell Gurung, Sarah Ingram, and Roxie Friberg; grandsons, Benjamin Friberg and Jacob Schiller. Don is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, Battlefield Parkway with Pastor J. R. Caines officiating. Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
