In 2014 more than 200 people attended last year’s Spring Plant Sale at GNTC.

The Spring Plant Sale at Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC), an annual event that celebrates spring and the end of the cold weather, will take place Friday and Saturday.

The sale is hosted by GNTC’s Horticulture program.

Sale hours are noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Items being sold include shrubs, ferns, woody plants, annuals, perennials, sun plants, and shade plants. There also will be a great selection of vegetable plants including tomato, pepper, cucumber, and more.

“Our number one draw is our incredible selection of vegetable transplants that will include lots of varieties of tomatoes and peppers,” said Shannen Ferry, director of GNTC’s Horticulture program. “One of the tomatoes that we are really excited about this year is our SuperSauce tomato, which rivals beef in meatiness and size.”

Horticulture student Alice Towe, Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s 2015 GOAL winner, was a key person in organizing this year’s plant sale, according to Ferry.

The sale will take place at the greenhouses located across from GNTC’s Floyd County Campus, next to the Woodlee Building. All proceeds from the plant sale will benefit the Horticulture program at GNTC.

“We will have at least 25 varieties of tomatoes to choose from and almost every pepper you can imagine; including the ghost pepper and California reaper pepper,” said Ferry. “There will also be a huge selection of perennials and annuals and a good selection of ferns, such as Autumn Fern and East Indian Holly Fern.”

Georgia Northwestern Technical College serves Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield counties in Georgia with campuses located in Floyd, Gordon, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield counties. Approximately 16,000 people benefit from GNTC’s credit and noncredit programs, making it the largest college in Northwest Georgia and the fifth largest technical college in Georgia.
