SEC tennis dominated the open divisions, but Chattanooga tennis also claimed a couple of titles Sunday at the Icy Hot Tennessee Valley Open Tennis Championships at Manker Patten Tennis Center.

In the men’s open singles, Nathan Pasha (Georgia) edged Maxx Lipman (Florida), 6-4, 6-2, while in an all-Alabama women’s singles battle, Maya Jansen defeated teammate Erin Routliffe, 6-4, 7-6.

In doubles, Jansen-Routliffe defeated UTC’s Kayla Jones-Samantha Caswell, 6-1, 6-4 for the women’s title and Kyle Koch-Chris Cox of South Carolina topped Alex Gornet-Jarryd Woog, 6-1, 6-2

In an all-UTC mixed doubles, Roberto Vieira-Kelsey Coots def.

(1) Ankit Chopra-Kayla Jones, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Former UTC Southern Conference champion Ken Koelling won the Men’s 55s singles, Georgia All-American Philip Johnson won the 35s singles and Furman All-American Ned Caswell won the 45s singles.

25 Years Later Still a Winner:  Brian Thomas loaned Baylor boys’ tennis coach Philip Johnson a racquet Saturday that had been in Thomas’ closet for the last 25 years.

Johnson won his semifinals match with the racquet and used it today to win the Men’s 35s singles against Jason Marshall, 6-2, 6-0.

The last time Johnson played in a tournament?  He won the same TVOC age division title in 2014.

Kudos to Many: another great TVOC tournament thanks to director Ned Caswell, tournament head referee Richard Rogers, court assigner and tournament desk official Mary Cook, the volunteers who prepared the courts between matches and all the great food from breakfast, lunch and dinner.
