Hotel, Restaurant, Mixed-Use, Townhomes, Cottages Planned Near Cameron Harbor

  • Tuesday, June 7, 2016
A portion of the former site of Newton Chevrolet at Riverfront Parkway is slated to be developed with a mix of residential, commercial, hotel and restaurant uses.

The 7.3-acre site is near the new Cameron Harbor development as well as the new section of the Riverwalk leading from Ross's Landing Park to St. Elmo.

It does not include the main offices of the old Newton Chevrolet which was sold separately.

Newton Chevrolet was sold in 2007.

Aaron White is the applicant for rezoning, while Grant Law, whose family long operated Newton Chevrolet at the corner of M.L.K. Boulevard, is the property owner.

The site is split between a northern section and an eastern section. The northern portion is
proposed to be developed with two four-story buildings with residential units and possibly a
commercial ground floor.

The eastern portion, across Riverfront Parkway toward the river, is proposed to be developed with townhouses, apartments, a hotel, and mixed-use multi-story buildings.

The proposed density is 26.5 dwelling units per acre.

A drawing shows townhomes, a restaurant and hotel along the west side of Riverfront Parkway. Cottage homes and mid-rise lofts are closer to the river.

The rezoning goes before the Planning Commission next Monday at 1 p.m. at the County Courthouse.
