Councilman Hakeem Plans Workforce Development Initiative For District 9

  • Tuesday, January 24, 2017

District 9 City Councilman Yusuf Hakeem said he is planning a Workforce Development Initiative for the district.

He said it will be "a critical program to provide access, engagement, inspiration, training anddevelopment and empowerment to many District 9 citizens that desire to take advantage of the economic development and job growth that's taking place throughout our community."

The councilman said he will be canvassing the District 9 community providing details, answering questions and addressing the concerns of the citizens.

His campaign said, "We are excited about all of the great successes Councilman Hakeem has championed, and we are very excited about this Workforce Development Initiative that will provide individual opportunities that will impact families throughout District 9."

Councilman Hakeem said of the "Working Together Works" plan: "One very important reason that I've been able to serve my family and my community for the last 40+ years is because I was fortunate to have one of the most important foundations any human being can have - a purposeful career.

"There are many young men and women and older working adults that are under-skilled, under-employed, unemployed or simply not satisfied with their current career foundation.

"One of the most important issues facing our community today is the facilitation of 'engaging, inspiring, developing and empowering' individuals of all backgrounds with strategic workforce development opportunities that will allow them to take advantage of the tremendous job growth throughout our region.

"Another important goal is collaborative community partnerships that desire to positively impact the district that I serve through training, workforce development and employment and career opportunities for the citizens that I serve.

"I am excited to partner with many great organizations and entities that are ready to support my initiative that unites community leaders, growing companies and organizations that desire to be the change that is greatly needed in my district."
