Fire destroyed a shed and damaged two homes Wednesday night.

The Chattanooga Fire Department was called at 8:20 p.m. to respond to 1819 E. 26th Street on a reported structure fire. During their response they were notified that the structure was a large shed but that the fire had also extended to a house sitting close to it at 1817 E. 26th Street.

The fire had also spread to surrounding shrubs and trees.
Upon arrival, several crews began a fire attack on the shed and trees from one side and other fire crews set up exposure protection on the other side. Meanwhile, more crews entered the exposed residence at 1817 E. 26th Street and determined that fire was on the second floor and in the attic. After a primary search of the residence, firefighters were quickly able to bring the fire under control and as well as the shed and tree fire.

The shed had been completely engulfed in fire before the fire department's arrival and was a total loss. Fire in the residential structure was contained to the second floor and the attic. Damages were estimated to be $25,000 on the residence and $2,000 on the shed. A third house also received heat damage to its siding. That damage is estimated to be $1000.

A family of several adults and children were displaced due to the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The responding fire companies included E9, E5, Q14, Q1, Q2, L1 and S1.

Hamilton County EMS, the Chattanooga Police Department, and the Electric Power Board responded to assist.
