A Chattanooga Police officer who had been under investigation after more than one woman brought rape accusations against him resigned on Thursday.
Police said Desmond Logan's separation from the CPD is effective immediately.
He had been under administrative investigation by the Chattanooga Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit.
A Disciplinary Review Hearing had been scheduled for this morning. However, Logan resigned by email just minutes prior to the start of that hearing.
The allegations he was facing prior to resignation were untruthfulness and two counts of improper procedure.
Officials said the Chattanooga Police Department will be requesting decertification from the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) Commission for Logan.
The criminal investigation by other law enforcement agencies is active and ongoing, it was stated.
Chattanooga Police earlier said the department was "conducting an internal investigation into an allegation of criminal sexual conduct involving an officer in CPD's Neighborhood Policing Bureau."
Officials said, "CPD immediately launched the Internal Affairs investigation after the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office contacted CPD regarding an officer who was the focus of a sexual assault allegation reported to them on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. HCSO stated to CPD the woman told them she was sexually assaulted by a Chattanooga Police Officer while he was on duty."
Logan was hired by CPD in 2014. He was relieved of duty pending investigation on Thursday, June 14, 2018.
Police said at the time, "He will remain on administrative/modified leave until there is a final disposition in the Internal Affairs investigation. That disposition will not be made until the criminal case concludes."
"Trust between CPD Officers and the people we protect and serve is of utmost importance to me," said Chief David Roddy. "I want our community members to know proven misconduct by any CPD Officer that undermines their trust will not be tolerated."
Police earlier said, "The CPD Internal Affairs investigation is separate from the criminal investigation being conducted by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office."
