James "Jim" Alan Secord, of Chattanooga joined the church triumphant on January 4, 2019, at the Hospice Care Center of Chattanooga. 

 

Born April 11, 1949 in Atlanta, Jim grew up in Dalton. A resident of Chattanooga for 32 years, Jim was a member and Elder Emeritus of Rivermont Presbyterian Church.       

 

Jim was an alumnus of Indian Springs Preparatory School and Emory University. At both institutions he used his musical gifts as a member of Glee Clubs. Jim thrived in his English major at Emory despite full participation in the Chi Phi fraternity. He received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Georgia. Jim’s lifelong diverse interests were reflected in his encyclopedic knowledge and immense library.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan (Al) and Jane Barker Secord, and his son, Stephen Secord.  

 

He is survived by his wife, Carol Secord and daughter, Laura Secord, both of Chattanooga, and brother Forrest (Gail) Secord of Mableton, Ga.

 

A service of witness to the resurrection and celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 5 p.m. at Rivermont Presbyterian Church.

 

Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. prior to the service at the Rivermont Presbyterian Church.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Rivermont Presbyterian Church, Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA), or Hospice of Chattanooga.
