Commissioner Smedley Asks Meeting With Teachers Who Hit Commission Majority Against Wheel Tax Referendum

  • Monday, October 21, 2019

County Commissioner Sabrena Smedley said she would like an opportunity to address some 70 current and past county school teachers who signed a letter hitting her and four other commissioners who voted against a wheel tax referendum.

She sent an email to Kendra Young, a teacher at East Hamilton School, whose picture was shown on the Facebook page of the Hamilton County Democratic Party with the hashtag #votethemout.

It says, "These Hamilton County Commissioners do not support our teachers and students." It lists Commissioners Smedley, Randy Fairbanks, Greg Martin, Tim Boyd and Chester Bankston.

Above the photo of Ms. Young is "Stand with us & demand better from our elected officials."

Ms. Smedley told Ms. Young, "Good morning! Could you arrange a meeting for the five commissioners, named in your email, to meet with the teachers listed in your email? I personally would love to sit down with all of you and meet. I would assume my fellow commissioners would like to do this as well. I look forward to this possibility. Thank you. Sabrena Smedley."
