Lee men's soccer junior Jared McWhorter and sophomore Jonah Bryan were named to the D2 Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-South Region Team the organization announced on Wednesday.
McWhorter, a midfielder from Woodstock, Ga., scored seven goals and dished off three assists for the Flames and was named to the first team. McWhorter earned the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Year award last week.
Bryan, a defender from Chattanooga, Tenn., was a part of a backline that posted 10 shutouts while also coming up for corner kicks and set pieces to score one goal and attempt 16 shots.
The Flames gave up just one "own" goal in three GSC Championship matches to win the program's first title and first trip to the NCAA National Championship.
"That is a great accomplishment for both Jared and Jonah and I am glad they received this recognition. As I said before with our all-conference selections, individual achievement is directly related to team success and so this is a credit to the whole group and what we have been able to do this season," said Lee head coach Derek Potteiger.
"There is no question these two have been significant performers for us on both ends of the field and it has been fun to watch them excel in their craft this season. My hope is that Jared and Jonah, as well as a number of other guys, can lead us on Thursday to our first NCAA tournament win as a program. I know we all want this season to keep going to keep playing as long as possible," added Potteiger.
The Flames (12-4-4) will take on Queens University (N.C.) on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the opening round of the NCAA D2 Championship from Boca Raton, Fla. The winner will take on the South Region's top-seed and host Lynn University on Saturday at 6 p.m.
