NRC Announces Opportunity To Request Hearing On Bellefonte Construction Permit Transfer Application

  • Thursday, November 21, 2019
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has accepted for review Nuclear Development’s application to transfer the construction permits for the Tennessee Valley Authority’s unfinished Bellefonte reactors near Scottsboro, Al. Nuclear Development submitted the permit transfer application on Nov. 13, 2018, and supplemented its application earlier this year following discussions with NRC staff.

The NRC has published in the Federal Register a notice of opportunity to intervene in an adjudicatory hearing regarding the application.
Petitions to intervene in a hearing must be filed by Dec. 23, by anyone whose interest may be affected by the proposed transfer and who would like to participate as a party in the proceeding. More information on the hearing process is available on the NRC website.

The application, less proprietary details, also is available on the NRC website. Accepting the application for review, or “docketing” the application, does not indicate whether the Commission will approve or reject the request.
