Colonial Chemical Awarded Group Of The Month For Tennessee Adopt-A-Highway

  • Friday, February 1, 2019

Colonial Chemical announced that it has been selected by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) as its “Group of the Month” for January. Each month a volunteer group is acknowledged by TDOT on its website and rewarded with T-shirts and logo stickers for their work.

Colonial Chemical’s official start date for Adopt-A-Highway was Nov. 14, 2015. Colonial committed to keeping litter-free two miles of Highway 156 in New Hope, Tn. – on the same road as its headquarters.  This is a relatively high-traveled two-lane segment that includes well-used fishing and recreational areas developed by TVA.

Since that date, Colonial has organized 14 pickup days along the two miles adopted – and five more pickup days are scheduled for 2019, beginning in March.

Colonial has averaged at least 23 employees and family members for each pickup date – with over two-thirds of the staff participating in one or more pickups since its inception.

Averaging 35-42 bags for each pickup, Colonial has so far removed over 20,000 pounds of trash from Highway 156.

David Jackson, County Mayor of Marion County, said, “Colonial Chemical has set a high bar for community leadership and dedication to improving the environment of Marion County. Because of their tireless work, Marion County has also adopted its own litter-free campaign and have encouraged others to follow the example set by Colonial.  New Hope Mayor Mark Myers and I both agree – New Hope has never looked better!”

Because of its efforts in the community including Adopt-A-Highway, Colonial Chemical received Large Business of Year Award from the Marion County Chamber of Commerce in 2014, 2015 and 2018.

Colonial Chemical is a 32-year old global chemical supplier of finished goods for personal care, household, and industrial use. Colonial has developed revolutionary processes for making extraordinarily mild, environmentally safe and high-performing chemicals derived from all-natural and renewable ingredients. Colonial holds patents on some of the most successful new product ingredients that have entered the “natural” marketplace in the last decade.

Colonial’s emphasis on “green” products is reflected in their desire to being an environmentally-friendly neighbor and contributing in helping to keep the Marion County community clean.
